A Shoe for Every Occasion

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no telling where you might be swept off to.” Bilbo Baggins

“So girls go on adventures, too?”
“And they go in heels.” Lorelai Gilmore

I love shoes. I know, not a profound way to start this whole blog thing. But stay with me.

I have a pair of shoes for every occasion. If it turns out that I DON’T have an appropriate pair of shoes, even better. Now I can go shoe shopping. Work-out shoes, yard work shoes, rain boots, fancy black boots, taupe suede booties, dressy sandals, beach flip-flops…you get the picture.

My favorite shoes are my heels. Students and co-workers (oh yeah, I’m an English professor) know my walk by my heels. “You won’t be able to wear those forever” they say. “I guess I should live it up now, then,” I reply as I keep on walking.

Shoes for every occasion. Or so I thought.

When my life exploded and crumbled, I found myself without the right shoes for my new journey. What shoes do you wear to both safely navigate the rubble in front of you while reclaiming your identity, purpose, and confidence?

You get yourself some steel-toed stilettos. Strong enough to protect. Distinctive enough to inspire.

Every great adventure begins with the right shoes. What are yours?
